Resources for Building a Bitcoin Miner?

Before I get an army on me, I am a computer engineer. I am very interested in building my own bitcoin (or altcoin) miner for fun, and possibly to contribute to the mining network (I'd totally be willing to build asics if I'm good at designing the miners). Finding resources actually building a btc miner from scratch have proven to be difficult. I was wondering if anyone knew any resources in VHDL or Verilog or anything that could help be in building a btc (or alt) miner. Thanks /bitcoin :D

[Build Help] Transforming a Bitcoin Miner

A couple of years ago, my friend talked me into building a bitcoin miner. I am not computer savvy, so I fronted the cash and he did everything else.
Fast forward 2 years, and the bitcoin miner has been sitting in the closet gathering dust.
I am thinking of using it to learn QuarkXpress, Photoshop, and as a Media Center. My question is: how much money and I going to have to pay to transform the miner into a machine capable of doing this, and would it be better to sell the parts and buying something new?
List of Parts:
There is no hard drive, he ran everything off of a USB drive. Also, I plan to use my TV instead of a monitor.

Finishing up RS232 receive buffer

I've been working on the verilog modules for an RS232 channel over the last several videos of my YouTube series. I just finished building a receive buffer to read many bytes
https://youtu.be/aDLZvKg5tpo
This will be my last video on FPGAs for a while. Next few videos will be building a Bitcoin miner from scratch with Python!
Will eventually circle back and make a SHA256 module for the FPGA to finish up an FPGA Bitcoin miner

Bitcoin mining technical details

Hi everyone!

I'm working on a YouTube series where I build a Bitcoin miner on an FPGA from scratch.

I just published the first video in the Crypto Series playlist where I provide a high level overview of the technical details we need to understand to build crypto mining software.

Looking on Linkedin, Fidelity is hiring Bitcoin miner engineers. Doing some further research it turns out they are hosting miners with a big colocation start up building mines around the us. First colo is 300mw and I think in Georgia. The job listings here are for other cities. Very cool.

Miners on the Bitcoin Cash network appear to be preparing a plan to finance the protocol’s development using their own block rewards. The controversial plan would see 12.5 percent of the total BCH coinbase go towards those building on the network.

Where can I buy old ASICs? Currently looking for a Rockminer R-Box or similar

I'm building a bitcoin miner on a raspberry pi as a project with my son (yes - I understand fully I'll never earn a cent... er, satoshi).
My previous experience with mining was using a Rockminer R Box, and I was wondering if anyone has an old one or something similar they wouldn't mind parting with. I'm happy to buy it, if needed.
Basically, all the sellers I'm seeing on Craigslist and Ebay and so forth are advertising even the old USB 333 MH drives at over $50 - ridiculous markups that I suspect are preying on people who don't know any better and are trying to get in the mining game. Since none of these miners will ever earn money, its pretty ridiculous to sell them at those rates...
I like the R box as they were pretty silent and didn't make the house too hot (like my old antminers) and I want something a little more complex than a simple USB drive to put together with him.
Basically, we are going to put it together, learn about mining, then leave it on solo mining to try it as a bitcoin lottery.
Anyone know a good market for old miners - or have an old one they'd sell at a reasonable price?
Note to mods: not a "for sale" post - Its a want ad if anything :)

Muscle Powered PoW Installation, Help/Feedback

Fellow Miners
I would love some feedback on a Project I have going on: Muscle Powered PoW
See complete project description below but most important part with help needed first:
I am looking for USB powered miners which fulfills these specs:
I am looking for a pool which fulfills these specs:
I am looking for a USB hub which can handle about 2,5-3A (Raspberry and some USB miners) and has about 5 ports. It should have a Which one is proven to work? Where to get it?
The Project:
I am building a Bitcoin miner which is powered by a hand-generator. It will be an installation for the Zürich Money Museum, which will host an exhibition on Bitcoin. I think this will be a very cool exhibition and is a great opportunity for Bitcoin. They already have a coining die (link below, go to 1:27 to see what I mean) which can be used by all visitors to mint a coin. They also have an extensive collection of traditional currencies (fether-coin, salt-bricks, tea-bricks, Kauri-snail-bands, gold, ...). As many of you know, proof of work is by no means Satoshi's invention. It has been around for centuries or even millennia’s. To make the proof of work concept stick with the visitors, we are building the muscle powered proof of work miner. Display showing MinePeon graphs and values from the pool are going to run on an external screen which does not have to be powered by muscle. I have roughly calculated how much 5min of turning the handle should be "worth". Check this sheet and give me feedback. I see that this is very theoretical. Can it be done that you at least get a Satoshi from of pool to do 10 minutes of work?

About the hand generator. There are some other examples. They are for now locking to build one / have one built themselves. As it is a museum they want it to be a sturdy installation. I told them I need 5v 2-3A. Are there any other things which are important. Voltage fluctuations?

Does anyone know a Bicycle made for power generation? Other generator ideas?
Oh and just to make it clear: I know I am not going to ROI. ;-)
Thanks if you are reading this and trying to help out.
